Some of us really struggle to get to
sleep sometimes. By adjusting and avoiding a few things that may be part of your routine currently may just give you that rest you need.
* Develop a bedtime routine, so you can wind down before you actually go to bed.
* Keep to regular bedtime hours instead of say 10pm one night and 2am the next.
* This may seem obvious but make sure your mattress is a decent one. Firm ones are usually best.
* Avoid caffeine drinks late at night like coffee, tea, cola and also alcoholic drinks.
(Some people usually suggest a 'night cap' to help you sleep, although this will work to get you to sleep at first, you will find yourself having interrupted sleep patterns of waking up suddenly)
* Don't use your bed for work purposes i.e on laptop or doing paperwork, as you will find it hard to relax.
* Try not to nap in the daytime, as this makes you less tired later.
* Get up the same time every day instead of lying in, and get your 8 hours recommended sleep.
* Try a warm bath, hot milk or a massage before bedtime.
* Avoid watching late night
TV programmes and reading books that stimulate your mind, as you will probably end up thinking about afterwards and struggle to sleep.
Hopefully they will help you. If they don't and your problems continue, please go see your doctor who will be able to assist you with some tablets at the very least.
