A 16 year old Turkish girl's body was recently recovered by police from a 6 foot hole, in the garden of the girls family home. She was found in a sitting position with her hands tied together.

Forensic reports have confirmed that the girl called Medine Meme was buried alive in an honour killing, as it was discovered that she had been talking to boys. Apparently that is wrong in the family's religion, and Medine was being punished.

The harsh and disturbing punishment was decided and carried out by her father and grandfather. The hole was dug next to a chicken pen and the family home.

Forensics said her lungs and stomach. were full of soil, and there were no signs of bruising or poison. This confirms that the poor girl was still alive when she was put in the hole.

The story is even more horrible, as it appears the girl had a chance to be saved. She went to the police station 3 times previously telling them her grandfather had beaten her for talking to boys. But the police sent her home every time.

These shocking honor killings are decided by a council of relatives - usually the oldest members of the family. Once the punishment is done the family pretend that that the person never existed.

In the meantime her father and grandfather have been arrested and are pending trial. Medine's mother was arrested but then later released.

Medine's body was only found due to a tip off of an informant, and because the girl had been reported missing for 40 days. The family tried to cover up their disgusting honour killing by cementing over the hole.

Religion or not, this method of punishment is no religion that should be followed and is an utter disgrace.

I hope the father and grandfather get what they deserve, and this religion method can be stopped for good.
